Access to the Central Library is allowed exclusively to research staff and is made by prior request by e-mail (biblioteca.central@mites.gob.es), with a minimum of five days in advance.
The Ministry ' s Central Library, which specializes in social and labour issues and other related subjects, combines its main purpose as a library in the service of a ministerial department for the development and improvement of the professional activity of its staff with support for the study, research and knowledge of the subjects in which it specializes, extending the consultation of its collections to all interested persons.

One is prepared monthly Newsletter of news with the references added to the catalogue in the previous month, as well as a Bulletin of summaries with the indexes of the journals received in that period.
The Library’s long history, since the beginning of the 20th century, has made it possible to compile a considerable bibliographic and documentary collection of some 120,000 monographs and 2,900 titles of periodicals, which can be consulted through the Library. Catalogue of the Library.
It is noteworthy the great richness of its historical background that contains, among other documents, a collection of Municipal Ordinances of the nineteenth century, the publications of the Institute of Social Reforms, whose bibliographic funds it inherited after its disappearance in 1924 - date on which the origin of this Library can be established - and an important and heterogeneous set of printed works and manuscripts of the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries.
The abolition of various bodies in the 1980s meant that the libraries of the Institute of Trade Union Studies, the Institute of Health and Social Security, the Institute of Social Studies, the Institute of Labour and Social Security Studies and the Institute of Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation were transferred to the Ministerial Library, as had already happened in the 1970s with the library of the School of Social Training of Workers.
On the other hand, the Library has Documentary Repository which preserves, organizes and provides open access to metadata and digital documents from the Department's heritage collection, as well as to copyright-free publications issued by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.
Reading in the room. Users will be able to consult the documentary funds both in the Reference Room and in Hemeroteca, with capacity for 80 users. Both rooms have a WIFI connection.
Bibliographic information and attention to users. It provides personalized attention on collections, searches in catalogues and databases, as well as offering several consultation posts of the different sources of information (OPACs and specialized databases).
Loan. Restricted to Ministry staff and OO.AA. for one month, except periodicals, reference material and works prior to 1958. The request for books on loan may be made personally, by mail, telephone, fax or e-mail.
Reprography. The reproduction of the documents excluded from the loan is allowed to all users of the Library, while respecting the legislation on intellectual property and the conditions of conservation of the funds.
